Activities

Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC), established in 1990 as a public shareholding company, focuses on owning and operating power and water plants. As one of the region's first private sector companies in electricity generation and water desalination, QEWC has grown significantly, providing about 55% of Qatar's electricity and 73% of its desalinated water.

Initially capitalized at QR 1 billion, the company's capital increased to QR 1.1 billion in 2014 and then to QR 475.2 million in 2014 through the distribution of bonus shares. The capital was further adjusted to one billion one hundred million shares in 2019, with the Qatari government owning 60% and other shareholders owning 40%.

Managed by an eleven-member board headed by Eng. Saad Bin Sherida Al Kaabi, QEWC operates multiple key projects like Ras Abu Fontas and Dukhan desalination plants. It also holds shares in domestic companies such as Ras Laffan Power Company and Qatar Power Company.

With assets of QR 28 billion and a production capacity of 10,590 MW of electricity and 543 MIGD of water, QEWC has achieved remarkable growth, supported by long-term fuel supply contracts and successful investments. The company's balanced profit distribution policy and commitment to corporate social responsibility contribute to its stability and positive market performance. QEWC's future plans include expanding renewable energy projects and enhancing its global presence through Nebras Power.

Recognized for safety and security, QEWC won the ROSPA Gold Award in 2022. The company's credit rating remains strong at A1, reflecting its high performance and commitment to transparency and sustainability in its operations.
