Activities

Almarai Company is a Saudi multinational dairy powerhouse. Almarai sprouted its roots back in 1977, thanks to the vision of Irish brothers Alastair McGuckian and Paddy McGuckian, along with Prince Sultan bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Kabeer. They saw an opportunity to revolutionize milk production in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Back then, the infrastructure for milk production was a bit like a desert mirage - scarce and distant. But Prince Sultan had a vision: higher quality milk for the region. Almarai set up facilities across Saudi Arabia, helping local farmers produce and distribute milk. During the early 1990s, Almarai underwent a transformation - like a caterpillar turning into a dairy butterfly. They centralized operations, replacing five decentralized processing plants with a single central one. And the scattered small dairy farms are morphed into four large dairy farms in Al Kharj. Savola, a major player, owns a quarter of Almarai's shares. In 2005, Almarai made a grand leap from a limited liability company to a joint-stock company. As part of their IPO, they floated 30% of their shares on the Saudi Arabian stock market (Tadawul). In 2006, they decided to diversify their dairy portfolio. Almarai isn't just about milk and its derivatives, they also produce juices, bakeries, poultry, seafood, as well as infant formula. Almarai's influence stretches across the GCC countries, Egypt, and Jordan.
