Al Meera Consumer Goods Company and French retailer Casino, have signed a strategic partnership to develop a network of hypermarkets and supermarkets under the Geant and Geant Easy banners in selected Middle East countries. This relationship is a major step to make the Al Meera one of the leading retailers within the region. As a first initiative towards this cooperation, Casino, Al Meera (through Al Meera Holding Company WLL) and Retail Arabia have signed a sub-franchise agreement allowing Al Meera Holding (its affiliate and/or group companies) to develop and operate hypermarkets and supermarkets under the Geant and Geant Easy banners in Qatar and Oman. This relationship will help to reinforce the presence of the Geant and Geant Easy banners in GCC countries - where Geant is already a leading retailer with more than 10 stores in operation in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain.
Casino will provide assistance to Al Meera to open Geant hypermarkets and Geant Easy supermarkets in Qatar and Oman using internationally recognized methods and know-how developed by Casino and its partners and successfully applied in other GCC countries. This collaboration comes after a supply agreement was signed with the Al Meera earlier in 2011 which has granted Al Meera the right to exclusively sell Casino-branded products in Qatar.
Through the sub-franchise arrangement, Al Meera will be able to provide its customers with high quality and competitively priced products offered under the Geant stores'' concept. Casino, the multi-format French retailer group, is one of the world leaders of food trade. Its performance, which has steadily progressed over several years, is based upon an international network of multi-formatted distribution means, including hypermarkets, and e-commerce. This "precision retailing" represents a contemporary alternative to the mass retail industry of the past. With 11,000 outlets and employing close to 250,000 people, Casino is present in close to a dozen countries, and the agreement with Al Meera Holding will give both groups an additional foothold in the region. Retail Arabia is a successful retail player currently operating more than 10 stores under the Geant and Geant Easy banners in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain.
