Under the auspices of Dr Rawya bint Saud al Busaidiyah the Minister of Higher Education, Majan University College supported by the National Bank of Oman celebrated the 20th anniversary of its inception on Tuesday, October 27, at the Muscat InterContinental Hotel garden.
The establishment of the college in 1995 as the first private higher education marked an era of close partnership in higher education between the public and private sectors. The College began as the College of Administrative Sciences with 140 students and one programme. Currently, Majan University College offers quality programmes with robust quality assurance systems at the graduate level in Business studies, Information Technology and English Language with over 3,750 enrolled students.
It also hosts Post Graduate programmes in Business Administration, International Human Resource Management as well as an MSc in Computer Science with (5) pathways.
A large turnout of dignitaries, senior officials, Majan Alumni, Majan staff members and former employees were in attendance at the high profile, captivating, epoch occasion. Dr Rawya al Busaidiyah appreciated and thanked the College for its efforts in building a generation able to contribute to the nations' manpower.
The highlights of the event included video presentations that told the 2 decade history of Majan University College: featuring the Vice Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire and College's former Deans reflect on their experiences in Majan; a representative group of Majan Alumni shed light on their memories and learning experiences in the College, along with a couple of Majan's prominent partners and stakeholders reminisce on the past and present.
An equally interesting live illustration titled "The sand narrates the story of Majan" was presented by Shayma al Mughairi, a young Omani artist which brought to light the journey of education in Majan through the years. A subsequent video titled "Majan through the Years" featured developments in the College from 1995 to 2015 through brief narrations from members of the College community.
Another key highlight of the event was the recognition and award certificates handed to 27 long serving members of staff, in appreciation and commendation of their loyalty, dedication and outstanding service to the College. Majan University College also honoured and appreciated the local media for being instrumental in featuring the educational progress in Oman. The event concluded by the preview of the new website of the College and a raffle draw. The evening rounded off with guests having dinner while listening to live music played by Bader al Busafi and Sophi al Busaidi.
