Subscribers of the fixed phone service offered by Omantel in the Sultanate stood at 294,440 at the end of March 2012, against 287,323 in 2011, constituting a 2.5 per cent rise.

The monthly bulletin pointed out that subscribers of billed fixed phone service in the Sultanate stood at 219,200 at the end of March 2012, against 215,193 in 2011. Subscribers of pre-paid fixed phone service (Sahl) stood at 25,764 against 26,345 in 2011. The number of public phones all over the Sultanate stood at 6,801 during 2011 and 2012.

The bulletin pointed out that the number of fixed telephone lines subscribers in the governorate of Muscat stood at 137,884 by end of March 2012, followed by the governorates of South and North al Batinah 32,187, the governorate of Dhofar 21,588, the governorate of A'dakhiliyah 19,873, the governorates of South and North A'sharqiyah 16,209, the governorate of A'dhahira 7,461, the governorate of Al Buriami 6,494, the governorate of Mussandam 2,894 and the governorate of Al Wusta 374. Subscribers of billed and pre-paid GSM service provided by Oman Mobile and Nawras stood at 4,926,405 compared to 4,809,248 by the end of 2011, constituting a 2.4 per cent rise.

Subscribers of billed GSM service stood at 438,851 by the end of March 2012, against 432,093 during 2011, constituting a 1.5 per cent rise. Subscribers of pre-paid GSM service rose by 2.5 per cent to 4,487,824, against 4,377,155 during 2011. Subscribers of Internet service stood at 97,426 at the end of March 2012, compared to 89,063 during 2011, constituting a 9.4 per cent rise.
