Kuwait is in the process of working out an all-out plan centred on the development of renewable energy, said Secretary General of the Renewable Energy Development Organization (REDO) Ghadeer Al-Saqabi here yesterday.
In a exclusive interview with KUNA on the sidelines of an Arab-German joint energy gathering, which kicked off yesterday, Al-Saqabi said that she was glad for the Kuwaiti participation, at the level of both public and private sectors, in the meeting, affirming that the Kuwaiti presence was in line with the state's ambitious four-year development plan.
The official noted that one of the most integral power resources that could be used in such plan was the solar energy, revealing that in the region and Kuwait in particular such energy was very much available.
The Germans were amongst the pioneers of using such energy and Kuwaitis are very keen on benefiting from the German experience, stated Al-Saqabi who indicated that Kuwait was planning on becoming more than an oil and natural gas industrial state and branching into other types of ventures.
She revealed that experiments were held in Kuwait to harness such energy conducted in the northern part of the country, adding that the government was planning for constructing schools that would utilize solar energy for providing power. REDO will be backing up any government plan aimed targeting this goal. Also representing Kuwait at the meeting was the Chairman of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Ali Al-Ghannem.
