Markets opened flat amid weak global cues. Indices soon witnessed sell off in opening session. Sensex shed almost 300 points in opening session. Oil & Gas, Capital Goods and Auto put the pressure on the indices.
Indices remained choppy in the afternoon session. Bargain buying in closing session led smart recovery. Indices made fresh high back of short covering. Sensex swing 600 points during the day and closed with marginal losses.
Recovery in European markets also led the short covering in local markets. Markets breadth remained negative. Broader markets closed with marginal losses.
BSE Sensex closed at 19545.35 with the loss of 38.96 points and at NSE Nifty closed at 5868.40 with the loss of 6.10 points at the end of the day. BSE MIDCAP index closed at 7239.28 with the loss of 2.30 points and BSE SMALLCAP index closed at 8896.86 with the loss of 3.04 points.
